Heavy rains lashed parts Delhi and its national capital region for the second consecutive day on Sunday, making the weather pleasant. The meteorological department has predicted thundershowers and moderate rain on Monday as well.

Delhi woke up to an overcast sky and a fairly cold morning on Sunday. Intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rains started in the morning, continuing well into late evening. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 2.4mm rain in the last 24 hours. The rains were accompanied with strong gust of winds, lighting and thundering. Strong winds blew throughout the day otherwise as well. Mercury dropped a few notches, providing relief from the sultry weather in the past week. Maximum temperature was recorded at 31.2 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was one notch above season's average at 25 degrees Celsius. Temperature will reduce further on Monday when the weatherman has forecast generally cloudy sky with moderate rain. Maximum temperature on Monday is likely to settle at 29 degrees Celsius while minimum will be 24 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the sudden spells of rain over the weekend have let Delhi have a breather from pollution, with the capital witnessing "good" air quality on Saturday. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shared that this was the second time this year when the air quality achieved the "good" slot.

The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 48, which falls under the "good" category, according to the data available with the apex pollution control board. The CPCB officials attributed the clean air to continuing rains, which they said, had washed away the pollutants.

An AQI in the range of 0-51 is considered 'good' while 51-100 is 'satisfactory'. 101-200 is 'moderate' on AQI scale and 201-300 is 'poor', 301-400 'very poor with 401-500 seen as 'severe'.
