A 55-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a five-year-old girl in Khatana village of Jarcha here on Tuesday morning.
According to the complaint submitted by the girl's parents, the accused lured the girl with a candy and allegedly molested her on Monday evening. The police have booked him under Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Navin Sharma (55), a farmer based in Khatana village.
"We had received a complaint from the girl's father who said that the incident took place around 4 pm when their daughter was playing in the village when Sharma, who knew the child, lured her with a candy," said Shailendra Pratap Singh, station house officer of Jarcha police station.
The police said the man was known to the girl and she followed him to his field. He then sexually molested her. "The girl narrated the incident to her father who registered a complaint on Monday evening and we acted quickly on the complaint and nabbed Sharma from his residence on Tuesday," Singh said.
The police have booked Sharma under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354 (A) of the Indian Penal code for sexual harassment and section 7/8 of the POCSO Act.
"We are further investigating the accused as of now. The accused, however, holds no criminal record," said Singh. The victim was enrolled in a government primary school.
Recently, a 48-year-old constable, posted with the Gautam Budh Nagar police station, who allegedly tried to molest and rape a six-year-old girl inside a police post was arrested in the Ecotech 3 area of Greater Noida.
Action Taken
- The police have booked Navin Sharma under Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act.
- The police are investigating the accused as of now. However, he holds no criminal record.
