The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a 32-year-old man with fake currency notes of Rs 2000 worth Rs 10 lakh from Anand Vihar railway station area of Delhi. Police said that the accused used to supply these fake currency notes through Bangladesh.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Khalik Sheikh (32), a resident of Joyenpur, Malda district, West Bengal.

"For the last few months, a team was working on a module involved in circulating fake Indian currency notes to different parts of the country through Bangladesh and other nearby countries. We had got a tip-off that a man would come to Anand Vihar railway station area to deliver a big consignment of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) to one of his Delhi-based contacts following which we laid a trap and nabbed him," said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell.

The police said that during checking, Rs 10 lakh FICN was found in his possession.

"During the interrogation, the accused disclosed that to earn easy money he was lured by Ashfaq, a resident of Bangladesh and presently living in Malda, to join his illegal trade of FICN trafficking. He has been involved in transporting and circulating FICN to various parties in Delhi, UP and other adjoining areas for about last three years," said Yadav.

Sheikh used to buy FICN from Ashfaq by paying Rs 40 per Rs 100 FICN and used to supply it to his contacts for Rs 50-60 per Rs 100 of FICN.

"So far, he has admitted to have delivered about 4 to 5 consignments of FICN amounting to more than Rs 20 lakh in Delhi and UP. Further investigation is underway. Efforts to nab remaining members of this syndicate are underway," said Yadav.
