Debt-trapped ex-staffer held by Delhi Police for shooting at man

Three persons were arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly trying to murder and rob a 28-year-old cash handler of Nestle. The victim managed to identify the voice of the accused who greeted him before attempting to murder him in Yusuf Sarai.

The police were able to apprehend the accused when Sajjan Kumar identified the voice as that of one of his former employees.

"Aur bhai, kaisa hai?" were the words the robbers used to greet the victim, Sajjan Kumar, when he scuffled into the two bike-borne assailants. He was parking his bike outside Kotak Mahindra Bank when the accused greeted the victim and suddenly started to snatch the bag. When Sajjan resisted, one of the furious assassins shot three bullets at him, one of which, pierced right through the left eyebrow of the victim. The sound of the gunshots created panic in the area as a school and several banks were located in the vicinity. However, Sajjan was successful in preventing the robbers from taking the bag away.

On interrogation, the victim managed to recall the whole incident and even suspected one of his former employees as he recognised the voice of the man who greeted him. The police traced the location of their prime suspect, Dheeraj Yadav (40) and arrested him from Filmistan at Kishanganj. On, sustained interrogation, Dheeraj, disclosed the name of the two assassins who were identified as Jai Prakash (36) and Ajay Tanwar (39). Both the accused were then arrested.

Moreover, it was found that the accused were childhood friends and were involved in a debt trap. The easiest way to make quick money for them was to steal it. One country-made pistol and a white scooty was recovered from the accused. Kumar accompanied by a passerby was taken to Safdarjung Hospital immediately after he was injured and thereafter referred to All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences. The victim, despite being brutally injured, was saved by the doctors, but the bullet could not be secluded from the eye-brow. Although Sajjan's life was saved, but the condition of his eyes is still critical."We have recovered a cheque of 1.30 lakh and a mobile phone along with all his belongings from the victim's possession. He is stable and under treatment. The investigation is still going on," said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (South District).
