In a first-of-its-kind move aimed at ensuring transparency, the Delhi Development Authority has initiated the process of barcoding all files and letters in its offices.

The work, according to officials, has already begun with the first preference being given to departments with the highest public dealing.

"Currently, the barcoding scanners and printers are in the public dealing departments, although we soon plan to increase their reach and cover all the departments in DDA," said a DDA official.

The agency hopes the move will help the public keep track on its files and at the same time ensure faster redressal of complaints.

The agency has implemented 'File/Letter Tracking System Applications' at each branch, ensuring that the public is always in the loop regarding the status of files/letters without visiting a particular branch.

"This process will ensure no files go missing. Also, it will enable senior officials to keep a check on the time span of every file and how long it has been with a respective officer, before being cleared," said a senior official.

The tracking system will enable senior officials and the public to see the movement of any file/letter by clicking a 'search' button. Once the process is complete, departmental officers will have to make an entry of the number of each file/letter sent or received.
