The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday has summoned the principal of Delhi University's Hindu College to appear before them on the coming Wednesday. The summon was in response to the notices sent to the college asking about the 'exorbitant and unequal fees' and 'discriminatory' hostel rules of girl students.

Last week, Pinjra Tod, a student collective for non-discriminatory accommodation for girls, wrote to the DCW about the issue, prompting it to direct the college administration to produce a detailed report explaining the factual situation with respect to hostel fees and hostel rules for the girl's hostel.

"The report will highlight the steps taken by the college authorities to ensure equal hostel fees for both girls and boys and the steps taken by the college authorities to ensure non-discriminatory hostel rules for girls," DCW chief Swati Malliwal said in a statement.

Earlier in February, the commission had issued a notice to the college following a spate of protests by girl students to which they replied that the girl's hostel was constructed without any financial assistance from UGC and hence the fee was higher than the boy's hostel.

The college authority, however, did not receive the summons by the time DNA contacted them.
