After the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) on Sunday called off their protest march to the Parliament, scheduled for Monday, senior Delhi Police officers said the security in the Capital will be maintained as planned. Restrictions on public transport, however, will be eased to reduce inconvenience. The officers further requested people to avoid going to the New Delhi area on Monday.

Special Commissioner of Police and Delhi Police Spokesperson, Dependra Pathak, said the three-tier security arrangements, which were put in place to ensure law and order in the Capital on Monday, will remain as planned.

He further said the cops were keeping a tight watch over any suspicious activity and the vigil has been stepped up.

"We had a three-tier plan. The first security ring was at the borders and the second a little before the borders. The New Delhi district security cover formed the third ring. Security arrangements will be kept tight, but certain restrictions on traffic movement and public transport have been lifted to ensure smooth functioning and lesser inconvenience to people," the officer said.

He also said the movement of local trains, Metros and buses has been allowed as usual, but they are prepared to tackle any sudden change in the situation.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Garima Bhatnagar said the traffic movement has been eased keeping in mind the UPSC and CBSE examinations. "Traffic restrictions for March 20 have been lifted, but we request commuters to avoid the New Delhi area as a significant rise in security checks may cause delays and problems. People are requested to come to New Delhi, only if needed. All Metros, DTC buses and public transportation would ply as usual. Continuous watch on any development is being kept,"she said.

The Capital was converted into a fortress after the AIJASS announced a march by Jats from neighbouring states to Delhi in order to gherao the Parliament and block highways leading to the national Capital. The community members have been sitting on a dharna in various parts of Haryana since January 29, demanding reservation.

On Sunday, after a meeting, AIJASS Chairperson Yashpal Malik called off the march and said that their protest, till date, has been peaceful, and that they will decide their next course of action soon.

Nearly 30 people were killed and more than 300 were injured when a similar agitation by the Jats had resulted in large-scale violence in Haryana in February last year.
