A criminal wanted in several cases of attempt to murder and dacoity was shot dead after a brief encounter in the Dadri area of Greater Noida on Saturday night.

Police said the deceased was identified as Aslam, 30, who was carrying a reward of Rs 65,000 on his head. Two police personnel were also injured during the encounter while one other criminal managed to escape.According to the police, they had received a tip off that two men on a bike were coming towards the Dadri area to execute a big crime, following which a trap was laid."The incident took place at 8 pm. We had placed a police barrier at the Aamka road. We spotted two men coming on a bike and asked them to stop. Instead of stopping, they opened fired at the police personnel," Circle Officer Nishank Sharma said.

The duo tried to escape by continuously firing. In return, the police party also fired at them and after a brief encounter, the cops managed to overpower Aslam. His accomplice managed to escape.

"Aslam received a bullet injury on his chest and succumbed to death while on his way to hospital. Two constables were also injured in the crossfire and are being treated at the district hospital," Sharma said.

Police said that after confirming his address, they found that Aslam was a resident of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh and was a wanted interstate criminal. He was booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), among others.

"On checking his criminal history, we found out that he was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 from the Uttar Pradesh police and Rs 15,000 from the Uttarakhand police. Efforts are being made to nab other criminals," a senior police officer said.

Police further revealed that he had been allegedly involved in crimes such as murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and extortion in Noida and Greater Noida.
