Crime in Delhi in upward trend; 1,636 rapes, 517 murders

Crime in Delhi saw an upward trend when it comes to incidents like rape, murder and abduction with over 1,600 rape cases reported in 2013, more than double the previous year.

According to a report of National Crime Records Bureau, 1,636 cases of rape were register in the national capital last year, while 706 cases of rape in 2012. Among other crime, the national capital registered 3,609 incidents of kidnapping and abduction of women in 2013, 144 of dowry death and 3,033 incidents of cruelty by husband or relatives.

In 2012, the figure stood at 2,160 incidents of kidnapping and abduction of women, 134 of dowry death and 1,985 incidents of cruelty by husband or relatives. The NCRB report said there were 7,199 cases of crime against children in Delhi in comparison to 4,462 in 2012.
The capital also saw 517 murder in 2013, 585 incidents of attempt to murder, 65 incidents of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and 33 incidents of dacoity. While in previous year, the number of murder cases was 521, 439 of attempt to murder, 82 of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and 28 cases of dacoity.

There were 9,710 cases of theft of motor cycles and scooters and 4,538 of theft of cars or other four wheelers in 2013, but in 2012, the number of cases of motorcycles and scooters theft was 8,996 and 4,760 of theft of cars or other four wheelers.
