A middle-aged couple was mysteriously found dead at their residence in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area on Thursday morning. Police said that the deaths appeared to be suicides, however, the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out.

The couple is survived by two kids, one aged three years and the other four months.

According to senior police officers, the matter came to light early morning when the deceased Ram Chander's cousin brother, who lives nearby, came to his one room rented accommodation and found him hanging from the ceiling fan. His wife, Neetu, 27 was lying nearby, unconscious.

Earlier, the neighbours had raised an alarm after hearing the 4-month-old child crying for a long time after which Chander's brother visited his house. He then raised an alarm and both of them were rushed to a hospital, where the doctors declared the duo dead.

The police was informed and the bodies were sent for a post mortem examination.

A police officer privy to the investigations said that Chander's mother who had come to visit the couple had gone to his brother's house to sleep, as their was not much space in there. It was only when Chander's family members returned in the morning, they found both of them dead.

"A forensics and crime team arrived at the spot to collect samples. Since no suicide note has been found, the matter is being probed from all the possible angles. It is also suspected that a financial crisis might have led the couple to take this drastic step and family members are being questioned to know more. We are trying to find out of there was any forced entry late last night. So far, local enquiry has not suggested any problems between the couple so far," said Additional DCP (South), Chinmoy Biswal. He said that a case has been registered and the matter is being probed .

Police are also checking CCTV footages from the vicinity to see if someone visited the couple when Chander's mother had left. Chander was a driver by profession and belonged to a village near Agra, his wife was a homemaker and looked after the kids.
