Over 500 resident doctors have applied for the over 200 vacant posts of senior resident doctors as advertised by the Safdarjung Hospital administration but the rise in number of candidates is not the main problem. The Resident Doctors’ Association has alleged that there was corruption in the recruitment of doctors.

Opposing the manner of selection, FORDA, Federation of Resident Doctors Association, that works for the welfare of resident doctors all over India, and AIIMS’ Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) have condemned the corruption. AIIMS RDA has also written to Prime Minister Modi requesting him to call for a CBI inquiry to look into the matter.

“The process of recruitment was made in a way that it benefitted only a particular group of individuals. The interview was held without any written examination. This clearly violates the instructions given by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,” stated the letter to the PM.

FORDA also alleged that the administration violated the 40-year age limit, set by the health ministry for recruitment of senior residents, by reducing it to 33 years.

Safdarjung Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. A K Rai, however, denied the allegations. He said that the written examination is not mandatory and there are no set guidelines for the recruitment process.
