Party's Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha wrote a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that Kumar has been stalling many works in Delhi to favour certain companies.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday accused Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary Ashwani Kumar of indulging in corruption and intentionally stalling development works in the national Capital.
Party's Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha wrote a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that Kumar has been stalling many works in Delhi to favour certain companies. "To make Delhi safe for women, the AAP government plans to install CCTV cameras across the city. But the Secretary has stalled this project. We have information that it is being done to benefit two big companies," Jha said.
Calling the allegations totally baseless and absurd, Kumar told DNA, "The baseless allegations amount to criminal defamation. Regarding the procurement of CCTV cameras, I had submitted the file and recommendations long ago but the file is still pending. This is because the government has not identified the locations for these 1.5 lakh cameras."
He added, "They want to give these cameras to individual households rather than installing them at public places. They have a tendency to delay projects in order to make money. Since I don't allow that, they had no option left but to make these rubbish allegations."
Kumar also pointed out in his report that the tender for the project should be "open and competitive". Despite this, the government started talks with a French company he alleged.
It is not the first time that the AAP government has levelled charges against Kumar. Earlier in June, Kejriwal had written to Chief Secretary MM Kutty, demanding action against him for not overseeing de-silting of drains.
