With the arrest of two men, who usually targeted men in uniform, Delhi Police have solved four cases of cheating and theft at the Indira Gandhi International airport. The duo had targeted a CISF and an Army officer recently and duped them of cash.

The duo has been identified as Azad Khan, 24, and Mohammad Tamanne, 19, both residents of Bawana. According to the police, the first incident was reported on September 20, when one Manoj Kumar, a constable with the CISF, posted at the office of DIG, DMRC, reported that he was duped as he took an auto from Aerocity Metro Station to reach Domestic Airport with two other co-passengers.

"In the auto, one co-passenger showed the constable a bundle of currency notes saying that he had stolen it from the house of his landlord. He offered that he requires only Rs 6000 to reach Patna, Bihar. On this the second passenger offered the complainant that if he can contribute three thousand rupees they will share the bundle of notes with him. The complainant said he was made to believe that the bundle is having about three lakh rupees. The complainant agreed. On this, the second person asked complainant to wait till he comes after seeing off the first person to a nearby bus stop. The second person also asked the complainant to give his valuables to make him believe that the complainant will not leave the place with the bundle of notes till he comes back from the bus stop. On this the complainant gave a sum of Rs 33,000 and other documents as surety to the second person but the duo never returned," said Sanjay Bhatia, DCP IGI.

Bhatia said during the investigation a specialised gang came under radar which targeted defence personnel at railway station, metro stations and airports. Minute scanning of the CCTV footage helped identify two persons and police in plain clothes arrested them following a raid.

In the second incident, two days later, the DCP said that an Assistant Sub Inspector Rajesh observed that two men, accompanying an army officer, arrived at the T1D, by a shuttle bus and showed him a bundle of currency notes.

"They then took a sum of Rs 3000 and a Debit Card from the victim. On this, the police team which was following them, overpowered the accused persons. They were identified as Azad Khan and Tamanne. The police then checked the bundle of notes and found that the bundle was having news paper cuttings in the size of 500 rupee notes covered by a real Rs 500 note on the top. The complainant was identified as Sudeep Das, a serving Lance Naik in Indian Army," the officer said.
