According to police, the sharpshooter belonging to the Anil Dujana gang, Anil Bhati aka Tota, has received a bullet injury on his leg and was arrested by the police. His two other associates who were accompanying him managed to flee.
Two police personnel, head constable Tejpal Singh and Varun Veer Singh were also injured during the encounter. They have received minor injuries on their legs.
According to a senior official, they had got a tip off about the three gang men visiting Kasna village.
"The anti-extortion cell of the police had received information on whereabouts of Anil Bhati and his accomplices. The police also came to know they were planning something big," said Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.
The anti-extortion cell along with Kasna police immediately formed a team and raided a house in Janpat village where the criminals were hiding at around 12 pm on Tuesday.
"The criminals opened fire at police personnel and tried to flee. In return, police fired back at the criminals. Anil Bhati was struck in his leg and was nabbed. Somehow, the two other criminals managed to flee from the house," she added.
Bhati has been admitted to a district hospital where his condition is said to be stable. He is an accused in a double murder and in a number of other cases of loot, extortion, kidnapping and murder.
The police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 15,000 for information about him. Dujana is a noted criminal involved in high profile murder cases.
