Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a 34-year-old man from Mumbai for allegedly raping a woman from Uzbekistan when she was residing at south Delhi's Chhatarpur area, in May this year. Police said that the man had been evading arrest for more than two months and was hiding in Mumbai.

According to the police, the accused, who was identified as Sonu alias Jagjeet Singh, a resident of Pitampura, was known to a woman from Uzbekistan. The woman had accused Singh of raping her.

"The woman's complaint stated that the man forced himself upon her at her residence after which he threatened her to not disclose the incident to anyone. However, with the help of her friends, the woman approached the police and got an FIR registered in Mehrauli police station," said a senior police officer.

Additional DCP, Chinmoy Bisham said, "Following a medical examination, a case of rape was registered. Receiving a tip off, our ream nabbed him from Matunga area in Mumbai. He was absconding since the registration of the case."
