Both Alam and Irshad are school dropouts and started off with petty offences, in order to earn easy money and live a lavish life. DCP south, Ishwar Singh said that in order to prevent incidents of vehicle theft in the area, a police team of special staff led by Inspector Jeet Singh received secret information about the movement of a gang involved in the theft of three-wheeler scooter rickshaws (TSRs).

Further, on their instance, 13 auto-rickshaws stolen from different areas in Gurgaon and Delhi were also recovered,” Singh informed. During interrogation, Jai and Veeru confessed to having committed crimes, including vehicle theft in NCR. “Both of them are good friends and inspired by a famous Hindi movie‘Sholay’, both are known as Jai and Veeru in the locality, the protagonists of the movie. Initially, both were driving auto-rickshaw on rent to earn money. Later, they planned to steal auto-rickshaws from Gurgaon, Faridabad and Delhi in order to earn quick money by giving them on rent on daily basis,” the DCP said.  They used to ply the stolen auto-rickshaws only in the local areas of Sangam Vihar, Devli and Khanpur to avoid checking by police on main roads. They also used to give the stolen auto-rickshaw on rent to needful persons on daily bases to earn regular money, Singh stated.
