The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police held an awareness programme on women’s safety at the Great India Place Mall on Saturday. This women’s safety week has been going on for this entire week

According to a senior police official, the need of the hour is to educate boys about gender equality as young males in their early 20s are committing these crimes.

“We earlier held self-defence workshop for girls in academic institutions. Now we have planned to sensitise and educate the boys in colleges and academic institutions to behave well. We will form teams and talk to them about women’s safety. We believe this will yield good results in bridging the gender equality gap,” Luv Kumar, Senior Superintendent Of Police, Gautam Buddha Nagar said.

He added that the women should make a complaint and contact  the helpline number 1090 immediately if they face any problem.

“Women should display courage and make a complaint. Once the complaint is received, police will actively pursue the matter. Their courage will deter the accused and inspire others to raise their voices,” he said.

The SSP also said that some people have pre-conceived notion that the police personnel are unfriendly, which is not true. “The city police are very sensitive towards people’s safety. We take all complaints seriously and take actions accordingly,” he said.
