Allegedly, through Chandrashekhar, Dinakaran sought the 'Two Leaves' symbol of the party by bribing an Election Commission official
Investigators have managed to recover a crucial piece of evidence in the controversial AIADMK symbol bribery case. The police officers have recovered a mobile phone that suspected middleman Sukesh Chandrashekhar used to talk to AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran. The phone was recovered from Chennai.
Allegedly, through Chandrashekhar, Dinakaran sought the 'Two Leaves' symbol of the party by bribing an Election Commission (EC) official.
"This is an important evidence. It easily establishes the connection between the two accused," a senior police officer, who is a part of the probing team and had gone to Chennai along with the accused to look for evidence, said.
During interrogation, Dinakaran had accepted that he met Chandrashekhar, suspected to be a middleman, in order to bribe an EC official. Earlier, he had completely denied knowing Chandrashekhar.
The sleuths also came to know about Dinakaran's five bank accounts that were used for heavy transactions. "Dinakaran used the accounts to pay money to hawala operators and eventually to Chandrashekhar," a police officer said. The investigators have also summoned Dinakaran's chartered accountant for questioning.
The Delhi Police have already questioned several men suspected to have been linked to the money trail in the case.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court sent Chandrashekhar in judicial custody till May 12. Hawala operator Naresh Jain was sent in police remand till April 30. The police are questioning Jain to unravel the money trail.
The police had earlier arrested Chandrasekar, who had allegedly struck a deal for Rs 50 crore to help the AIADMK (Amma) faction keep the 'two-leaves' symbol, and seized Rs 1.3 crore from him.
