Cops bust drug cartel, seize heroin worth Rs 20 cr

The Delhi Police on Wednesday said it has arrested three men for allegedly running an interstate drug cartel. The Special Cell of the police which bust the racket also seized heroin worth Rs 20 crore.

According to a senior officer, the drugs were being brought in bulk from Manipur. The drugs were brought to the Capital through various routes including from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

"The Special Cell has been working on developing intelligence about various drug cartels operating in the city," said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

The drugs brought from Mnaipur were then supplied to Delhi-based suppliers and further to peddlers, added Yadav.

The police has identified the duo arrested as Rajesh alias Raje (39) and Deepak (35).

While Rajesh works as a carrier, who brings heroin to Delhi, had brought a big consignment from Bareilly to the city, Deepak is the kingpin of the gang who was supposed to receive the consignment near south Delhi's Vivekanad College, the police said.

The police nabbed Rajesh on July 23 and recovered three kilograms of heroin from his possession. Deepak, however, was arrested on July 24 from near Esat Delhi's Cross River Mall in Surjamal Vihar and two kilograms of heroin was seized from him.

The police also arrested Deepak's associate Sunil (29) from near Ganda Nala, Vijay Vihar while 100 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession, said Yadav.

Besides this, a Santro car, a two-wheeler, and mobile handsets with SIM cards, used for drug trafficking, were also recovered from the possession of the two accused.
