In another blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) the Delhi police on Thursday registered an FIR against three of its legislators for allegedly molesting and abusing a woman in the Delhi Assembly premises last week.

In her complaint, Simran Kaur Bedi, a party volunteer from Rajouri Garden, alleged that AAP MLAs Somnath Bharti, Amanatullah Khan and Jarnail Singh shoved, thrashed and abused her at the Vidhan Sabha premises on June 28.

"I wanted to attend the proceeding of the house but could not get the pass for the visitor's gallery. So, I was standing outside the building when Jarnail Singh came towards me shouting 'she is the one who slapped Sanjay bhaiya'. Both Khan and Bharti were with him. They dragged me into a room where they shoved, kicked and abused me," Bedi said in her complaint registered on June 29.

Earlier in April, Bedi had slapped senior party leader Sanjay Singh while he was campaigning in Rajouri Garden for Delhi civic polls. "I had to take that extreme step to raise the issue of the corruption in poll ticket distribution in AAP," she said.

The legislators, however, dismissed the charges saying the woman has made the allegations on behest of the BJP and ousted AAP MLA Kapil Mishra. "The woman entered the Vidhan Sabha both days without any authorisation. Her entry was facilitated by BJP leader Vijender Gupta and Kapil Mishra. What else can you expect from them," party Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan said while speaking to DNA.

Senior party leader Sanjay Singh also termed the development a "political vendetta". "This is a political vendetta by the BJP-led central government. We are surprised as to how come they have arrested only 15 of our legislators as of now," he said.

Taking a jibe at the Delhi police, AAP Delhi spokesperson and MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said, "Delhi police's record is very poor when it comes to cases against AAP MLAs. They have been repeatedly slammed by the courts for not having any evidence against us."

Fifteen AAP MLAs have been booked by the Delhi Police till now on various charges and 13 have been arrested. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also named in an FIR registered by the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) in connection with alleged "irregularities" in the functioning of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) in September 2016.
