With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters who stole two-wheelers from the north-west district of Delhi and sold them to chain snatchers. The arrested included a mechanic.

Rajinder Kumar, 44, Akash, 21, and Monu, 20, were arrested from Pitampura in north-west Delhi. As many as 10 stolen motorcycles, two scooties, and a bunch of keys were recovered from their possession, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a check was conducted in front of the Maharaja Agrasen School in Pitampura and the accused were arrested with two motorcycles, which did not have original documents.

During the interrogation, the accused revealed that the gang was headed by Rajinder, who was employed as a mechanic and ran a motorcycle repair workshop in Prem Nagar.

After stealing the motorcycles, he dismantled the bikes and sold to chain snatchers of Sultanpur and Mangolpuri areas.

"Rajinder dismantled the vehicles in his workshop and used the spare parts to repair other bikes. He would also change his associates frequently. Nowadays, he was in contact with two budding criminals involved in several thefts," the police said.

A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with the police claiming that as many as 19 cases have been solved with these arrests.
