A Delhi Police constable was crushed to death under a speeding cluster bus in Dwarka on Thursday night, while he was on his way to the Delhi Cantonment police station for night duty. Police have arrested the bus driver, who is a former serviceman.

Also, in an incident of road rage, a group of men first thrashed a youth and then ran him over with a car, leaving him barely hanging on to life.

According to the police, the first incident took place around 10.30 pm, when Constable Amarpal, who lived with his family in Najafgarh and hails from Haryana, left his house to go to the Delhi Cantonment police station. Police said Amarpal had reached near the Dwarka flyover when the speeding cluster bus of route number 764 hit him from behind.

"Locals and witnesses told the police that after being hit by the bus, Amarpal lost control over his two-wheeler and was thrown meters ahead. He sustained critical injuries on his neck and face. Passersby then stopped the bus and nabbed the driver. They called up the PCR and reported the matter," a senior police officer said.

Police said the Constable was in civil dress and was identified with the help of his ID card. He was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The driver was booked for causing death due to negligence and rash driving. The family of the deceased has been informed and the body has been sent for a post-mortem. A medical test is being conducted on the driver to check whether he was drunk at the time of the accident.

In the second incident, reported from Vivek Vihar, a youth driving a car was allegedly brutally thrashed when his vehicle touched a mini-SUV on the road. The outraged occupants of the mini-SUV intercepted the youth and started beating him. They later ran over their vehicle over him and sped away. One of the accused, however, was nabbed by the locals and handed over to the police.

"The injured was rushed to hospital, where his condition was said to be out of danger. The nabbed accused has been booked under relevant sections and efforts are on to identify his aides," the police said.
