Delhi has reason to cheer. The national capital is soon likely to see respite from the scorching heat with spells of rain expected over the weekend. Parts of the Capital and the NCR region are likely to set thunderstorms on April 29 and 30, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

The Capital also witnessed light rains on Friday as well bringing the temperature down by a notch from 38.6 degree Celsius to 35 Celsius.

According to MET officials, a fresh Western Disturbance is behind the change in weather conditions. While the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 38 degrees, the minimum temperature will remain around 24 and 26 degree over the weekend in Delhi and neighbouring regions of northern India.

"An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Afghanistan. Besides, another circulation is likely to form over Punjab and Haryana with moisture incursion taking place in the region resulting in rains," said R Vishen, scientist in-charge, IMD's regional weather forecasting center.

Under the influence of these systems, parts of North-West India are likely to witness thunderstorms and also squalls in isolated regions between April 29 and 30. The IMD says rainfall is likely to be seen in some parts of the Capital over the weekend.
