The Noida Authority on Tuesday finally began the long-pending construction of an approach road to the newly-built bridge across the Hindon River. The Rs 50 crore bridge, connecting certain Sectors of Noida and Greater Noida, is likely to reduce traffic congestion particularly on the Noida-Greater Noida West Road.

The inauguration of the bridge — the construction of which was jointly undertaken by Noida Authority and Greater Noida Authority and began in October 2014 to March 2016 — was delayed following the Noida Authority's failure to procure land from farmers to build the approach road.

This bridge is located between Greater Noida's Sector-1/4 and Noida's Sector-118/122. The eight-lane bridge is 28-metre-wide and it connects Noida's Phase-2, Sectors 121, 122, 84, 74, 73, 77, 78 and 79 with Greater Noida's Sectors 1, 4 and 16A.

"In February, Noida Authority's Chairman and CEO, Alok Tandon conducted an inspection in the area where the bridge was located. After several meetings between the officials of Noida Authority and farmers, the Authority was able to purchase the land," an official said. Senior project engineer, Noida Authority, Samakant Srivastava said the one kilometer land was purchased four days ago.

"Initial work of constructing the base of the road by filling soil has started. We are hoping that work on the road will be completed before December and the bridge will be opened for commuters in the coming year," Srivastava said.
