Delhi police have arrested a conman, who, inspired by the Bollywood movie Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, used to introduce himself to women as an ultra rich son of a retired IAS officer.

Police sources said that he did this in order to establish relationships with them and later made videos to blackmail and extort money from the women. They added that the accused had duped over 12 women till date and had extorted about Rs 50 lakh as a result.

The accused has been identified as Yogesh Garg alias Sameer, 34, a resident of Bawana Industrial Area. With his arrest, police also rescued a woman, 42, and her son, 12, whom Garg was taking along to Mumbai after extorting Rs 3 lakh from them.

The conman’s actions came to light when a missing report was lodged at Vivek Vihar police station on Tuesday, by a man who reported that his sister, who is a teacher, and her son had been missing since September 3.

“He also told police that the woman was a divorcee and had recently uploaded her profile on a matrimonial site, where she came in contact with one person namely Sameer Garg. The complainant alleged that Garg had enticed his sister and thus persuaded to go to Mumbai with him,” said Nupur Prasad, DCP Shahadra.

As a result, contact numbers of the suspect were kept on surveillance and frequent raids had been carried out. Based on this technical surveillance, the suspect’s movements were tracked and a raid was carried out at New Delhi railway station from where the accused, along with the woman and child, was about to board a train to Mumbai.

“The man was arrested and the duo was rescued. The woman told police that Garg had got her to come along on the pretext of marriage and took her to Vaishno Devi. After a few days he also took her to Goa on the pretext of introducing her to his parents. She also said that he extorted Rs 3 lakhs from her,” the DCP said.
