Committed to Maratha, Dhangar quota, says Devendra Fadnavis

Stating that the government was committed to provide reservation benefits to Maratha and Dhangar communities, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that the state government would reserve 16 per cent seats for Marathas during the recruitment process for filling up 72,000 posts over two years.

Replying to questions by the Opposition on adjournment motion over this issue, Fadnavis made it clear the state government would not provide any reservation on the basis of religion.

Replying to a question by SP MLA Abu Azmi and Congress MLA Naseem Khan, Fadnavis said the Supreme Court has struck down reservation on the basis of religion many times and the government would include Muslim citizens in reservations like those for OBCs as per Constitutional provisions.

Fadnavis informed the assembly that after bringing Maratha reservation, the government fought the case till the Supreme Court and the case has come back to the high court since a backward class commission was not formed in the state. He said that for Maratha reservation, it was necessary to obtain an NOC from the backward classes commission.

RECOMMENDATION

For Dhangar quota, CM Fadnavis said, “TISS conducted a survey in 36 districts in 5 states and is going to submit its report soon. The govt would make a recommendation to the Centre.
