Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed a gathering of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers launching the full statehood for Delhi campaign and said that this battle is for every citizen of this country.

"It's not just the Aam Aadmi Party's fight... All parties should come together to support this demand. We will convene an all-party meeting soon to seek support for complete statehood for Delhi," Kejriwal said at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on Sunday.

"I want to remind Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promise to grant full statehood to Delhi. If he doesn't deliver on it, his party will not get a single seat in the next elections," the chief minister said.

He also launched a signature campaign titled "Delhi Mange Apna Haq" today to drum up support from 10 lakh people on the full statehood issue.

Attacking the Centre and the Lieutenant Governor (L-G), Kejriwal said that if Delhi was a full state then the L-G would not have the power to not meet the CM and the Cabinet on any issue. "In Delhi, the writ of the L-G runs, not the will of the people. It's L-G raj, not democracy in Delhi Whose writ should run in Delhi? That of the L-G or that of the people of Delhi?" asked the Chief Minister. In the same breath, he attacked the Center over the appointment of the L-G. Seeking a role for Delhi government in the appointment of L-G in Delhi, CM Kejriwal said,"Till Delhi does not become a full state, no L-G should be appointed by the Centre without the Delhi government approving the name for appointment." Once Delhi becomes a "full state", it would witness a spurt in the development work, the AAP chief said, adding his party was fighting for the dignity of Delhi's voters.

He also asked for full statehood so that 80 per cent reservation in jobs can be ensured to the youth. Giving full statehood to Delhi will also help the AAP government in building new colleges and legalising unauthorised colonies. He also said that the police will come under the Delhi government, which will make them accountable and responsible to the city government. He urged people to think about the future of their children and fight for their rights.
