The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is unlikely to use the new URL-based system of transferring question papers to the examination centres for the class XII Economics re-test on Wednesday.
The centre superintendents across the Capital had not received any communication from the board regarding which system to be followed by Tuesday evening.
The centre superintendents hope that everything goes smoothly unlike April 2 when Class X and XII exams got delayed by over 30 minutes amid confusion over the use of a new question paper delivery system. The centre heads were told to go back to the existing system at the last minute. "We hope that the old system will be followed tomorrow as without proper arrangements we can't use the new system smoothly. We have not received any message from the board as of now, but we will have to be prepared," said a private school principal in east Delhi.
The new system was to start following the leak of Class XII Economics question paper that has forced six lakh students to sit for the re-exam on Wednesday. Under this system, centres would receive encrypted copies of question papers that they would need to download and print themselves under strict surveillance on the day of examination. "We are told that the CBSE will inform us about the medium of transferring question papers on Wednesday morning itself. It is highly unlikely that the URL-based system will be implemented," said a principal of a private school in South Delhi.
Officials at the CBSE, however, say that it has to be kept "confidential" to avoid any untoward incident. "CBSE is doing everything to conduct the exam smoothly. Papers will reach the examination centres on time and no inconvenience will be caused to the students," said a senior official.
So far, the sealed copies of question papers were sent to the examination centres from custodial banks in the presence of security on the examination days.
Meanwhile, students fear about the question paper being difficult this time around. "I did so well last time as the question paper was easy. I could not study well now as my entrance exams are on. I hope it would not be tough," said Akshay Singh, a Class XII student at St Thomas.
