Class XI student stabbed to death with compass

Three juveniles, aged between 16-17 years, including one of the deceased's relatives, have been apprehended for the murder

When a blood-drenched body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from Chhawla, more than 15 kilometers away from his school in Vikaspuri, where he was seen last, the police was left perplexed. Senior officers said that the killing was fallout of a scuffle for Rs 25,000, which the deceased had borrowed from one of the accused. Three juveniles, aged between 16-17 years, including one of the deceased's relatives, have been apprehended for the murder.

According to senior police officers, the body of the Class XI student was found on Monday morning lying in a drain in the Goyla dairy area of Chhawla in southwest Delhi.

Primary investigations revealed that the child had left his school saying that he would go home with his father, on a scooter. However, he was seen with three juveniles by a few of the school guards and students, which helped police take the probe ahead, police said.

"Primary medical examination has suggested that the child due to internal bleeding as his heart was punctured using a compass that kids use for stationary purposes."

"Our teams narrowed down on two juveniles, students of elements standard who lived in the same locality that of the deceased's. Their questioning revealed that the murder followed a scuffle for Rs 25,000, which Mandeep had apparently borrowed. They have been apprehended and the deceased's school bag and compass used in murder have been recovered," said Surender Kumar, DCP southwest.

Police said that the students have been detained and are being questioned. "We are yet to ascertain as to why did Mandeep borrow the money. A case of murder has been registered and further probe is on," the DCP said.

Sources however revealed that the police was initially also probing a love affair behind the murder. "Family members of the deceased, neighbours and school staff and students are being thoroughly questioned to unveil more behind the mysterious killing," the officer added.
