A 17-year-old boy was strangled to death by his friend and two others after he tried to initiate friendship with his friend's girlfriend studying along with him at school. The incident was reported from South Delhi's Mehrauli area and three persons have been apprehended in the case.

Jaideep alias Jatin Goyal was killed by his friend Navin Singh (20), Akash Chaudhary alias Ashu (23) and another friend of theirs.

The accused person had taken the help of a crime show on television to commit the crime. According to the police, it was Singh's girlfriend who studied with Goyal. The girl had told Singh that around two months back Goyal had tried to speak to her but she avoided; later Singh asked her to stop talking to him but a few days back she informed Singh about Goyal following her and initiating friendship, following which he hatched a conspiracy along with his associates to kill him.

Goyal's mother said that he returned home happily from school on Saturday as he had won a trophy. Every Saturday, Goyal went to the Shani temple in Jasola known by everyone."He left for the temple around 6:30 pm and when he did not return home till 8 pm, I asked my daughter to call him. When we called on his number, someone else picked up the phone and said that they would kill my son, if I did not fulfill their demands of a ransom of Rs 20 lakh. I agreed to pay as well," said the mother.

While all this was happening Akash was sitting at Goyal's house and misleading the investigators. At the same time, he was also informing his friends about the situation at Goyal's house and their actions.

The family members then informed the police, who registered a case of kidnapping. The police traced the location from where the ransom call was made and also found Goyal's scooty dumped there. After scanning various CCTV footages in the area, one of them showed three boys with faces covered going on a bullet motorcycle. The police showed the grab of the CCTV footage to various friends of Goyal. One of them identified the bullet as that of Akash, following which he was apprehended.

After sustained interrogation, he broke down and confessed to the crime. At his instance, two of his other friends were also apprehended.
