Civic body to launch e-portal for property tax

This includes searching their property details, knowing the tax dues and the amount deposited since 2004-05, and lodging of complaints, among others

The North Corporation is all set to launch an interactive portal for property tax. The portal will have features for e-mutation (change in name) programme, besides having quick access to property details, dues, making requests for modifications in tax details and lodging complaints, among others.

PK Gupta, commissioner, North Corporation, who made the announcement on Monday, said that it is a step forward in the total digitisation of working in the civic body.

"The entire property tax records would be digitised which will ease the interaction between users and the service providers," said Gupta.

Tax payers will be able to avail a number of facilities by just logging in. This includes searching their property details, knowing the tax dues and the amount deposited since 2004-05, and lodging of complaints, among others.

"The Corporation will be able to maintain proper records in a compact manner, will have categorical details of property tax under heads such as area-wise, colony-wise, etc, besides generating notices automatically to defaulters," said Gupta.

The Commissioner said that the Corporation aims at being financially self-reliant and setting an example of good governance.

The scheme is part of the digitisation programme being implemented by the Corporation with an aim of widening tax base, digitisation of property tax records and maintaining it in electronic form.

As part of the digitisation process, total number of taxpayers for year 2016-17 increased from 3,95,043 to 4,40,145.

In what has given the Corporation high hopes this time is the increased collection of property tax to Rs 613 crore in 2016-17 from Rs 371 crore in 2015-16.
