Schools in Delhi might soon be fortified like airports and other vital installations. Taking note of the recent Ryan murder case and expressing concern over the safety of children in schools, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has written to various private and government schools across the country, offering professional consultancy service for tighter security.

CISF is considered to be the premier security agency to guard most of the critical and vital installations in the country, such as Delhi Metro, nuclear plants and airports. In a letter sent to various schools, the force stated that it can help create a "safe and secure" environment for school-going children at a minimal cost.

A copy of the letter, which DNA has, read: "It is felt that in the wake of the recent unfortunate incident in one of the reputed schools in NCR in which a young student lost his life, there is now a need to revisit the security infrastructure of our schools. We firmly believe that our consultancy will assist in finalising the blueprint for effective security and fire protection of educational institutions."

CISF DG OP Singh told DNA that many schools have already replied positively. "The security overhaul would be done following an audit. We will check access control, propper manning of entry-exit points, security at the periphery, surrounding areas, and CCTV cameras to cover the dark zones. We will also set up certain protocols for the safety of the children as well as the faculty and staff," Singh said.

Also, at a time when private firms are charging hefty fees for such services, the paramilitary's consultancy fee would be around Rs 4 lakh per school.

Among those who have been sent the letter include the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, the Delhi Public School Society, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Springdales, Salwan Education Trust, Modern School, Sanskriti, Mothers International, Shri Ram, and Appejay Education Society in Delhi.

The force even approached the Ryan Group of Schools in Mumbai, the Doon School in Dehradun, Scindia School in Gwalior, and Rishi Valley in Chitoor, Andhra Pradesh. Many more such letters will be dispatched soon.

The force has provided similar security consultancy for the Dhirubhai Ambani International school in Mumbai and has audited a number of Indian Institutes of Management (IIsM) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

"Our report will cover all aspects related to integrated security solutions, student/faculty protection, and any other specific requirement. The consultancy report and security architecture will be commensurate to the requirement," the letter added.

CISF'S PLAN

Access control to the school building

Strict manning of entry and exit points

Installation of CCTV cameras to make school premises dark zone free

Securing the outer periphery and schools' surroundings

Fire fighting and crisis management
