Christmas fervour gripped the national Capital on Monday as thousands of devotees thronged churches to offer special prayers and soak in the Yuletide spirit at decked up cathedrals.

As bells tolled, people thronged the churches, including the Cathedral Church of The Redemption and Sacred Heart Cathedral --- looking resplendent with twinkling lights for the midnight service to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also greeted people on social media and marked his attendance at several Christmas programmes in the Capital. At one of the events, Kejriwal emphasised the significance of communal harmony, nullifying the role of place for "hatred" in a civil society. Speaking at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kejriwal said, "Today is a day to learn lessons from the life of Jesus Christ, the way he worked for the people of the society including the poor, the ailing and the needy. We should learn from his life and spread happiness and harmony all across ." He also added, "I think there should be love and harmony between all religions in the society and there should be no place for hatred."
Calling India a nation of a unique bouquet of various religions and faiths, Kejriwal reiterated the need to "preserve this bouquet" as a duty.
Speaking at another Christmas celebration at Punjabi Bagh, the chief minister expressed happiness over celebrating the festival with people.
Churches in different neighbourhoods of the city reverberated with traditional Christmas carols rendering the air festive, with gospel bands enthralling the merry-makers with songs like 'Jingle Bells', 'Oh Holy Night' and 'Santa Claus Is Coming to Town'.
