A two-year-old child’s head was brutally hit repeatedly against the floor by his neighbour until he died, in Southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Thursday evening.
The accused woman who lives in the same building killed the child, following a heated argument with his mother, in a fit of rage. She was caught when she was found having hidden the boy’s body in a sack to dispose of it later.
According to the senior police officers, an argument erupted three days ago between the accused woman, who was later identified as Madhu Bala, and the child’s mother. Police officers say that it was on Thursday that the woman got a chance for “revenge” when she spotted the child roaming around alone.
“Since the victim’s family lives on the first floor, the accused woman took the child to her room to the second floor of the building. Then, when the child tried to raise an alarm and start crying, the woman, in order to silence him, hit his head multiple times against the floor, until the child died,”said a senior police officer.
Meanwhile, the child’s family started searching for him and after about an hour his father reached the accused woman’s house to check for him.
“Seeing the child’s father, the accused woman resisted letting the family in. They however barged in forcefully, with the help of neighbours, and found the child’s blood drenched body wrapped in a sack. It was then they rushed him to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the officer added.
Hospital staff then reported the matter to the police and the victim’s family gave a written complaint against the accused woman and an FIR was registered.
Police said that the child’s body was handed over to the police after a post-mortem examination.
“We are also trying to probe if some other angle is involved in the murder. Prima facie, rage has appeared as the motive behind murder, however all angles are being looked into. The woman has been arrested,” the officer said.
IN A FIT OF RAGE
Delhi Police data shows that sudden provocation leads to 12.60% of the total crimes reported, while 22.83% were sparked out of enmity. Illicit relationships cause 9.4% of crimes, robbery and theft led to only 3.5% of crimes whereas family and property disputes led to 13.39% and 0.79% crimes respectively.
