Child among 3 hurt after truck overturns on 5 cars near AIIMS

The vehicle was in high speed; absconding driver is yet to be arrested

Three persons, including a child were injured, after a speeding truck overturned on as many as five cars on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, near south Delhi's AIIMS hospital. The truck driver managed to escape from the location.

An injured, identified as Mohan Gupta, was on his way to Gurugram when the incident took place."I was driving back from Mayur Vihar. Around 12:20 am, while I was on the Safdarjung flyover, I heard a blast and saw that a truck had hit the railing. It first rammed the car in front of me and then hit my car. It went on to hit three other cars before falling towards the other side of the road,"he said.

Gupta further said that he tried to keep calm and call up his family members. "Fortunately, I did not receive any serious injuries but my shoulder dislocated. I was discharged from hospital in the morning," he added.

Another person, identified as Kishor, 44, was rushed to Jai Prakash Narayana Apex Trauma Centre (JPNATC), AIIMS, where he is currently recuperating

According to the police, around 1.15am, a truck coming from the Dhaula Kuan side at a high speed hit the railing and overturned on the other side of the Ring Road near AIIMS. "No one sustained grievous injuries but five cars were damaged,"a senior police officer said.

A case of rash and negligent driving and causing hurt by acts endangering life has been registered at the Kotla Mubarakpur police station. The five damaged cars have been seized by the police and the truck driver is yet to be arrested. Further investigation is underway.
