Chief Secretary row: Delhi Police may question Arvind Kejriwal former advisor VK Jain

The Delhi Police is likely to question Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's former adviser VK Jain again in connection with the alleged assault on Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash.

Jain was questioned in connection with the case in earlier February. In March, he resigned as Kejriwal's adviser citing personal reasons and family commitment. A senior officer said that they were likely to call Jain again soon as they need clarity on certain things.

The alleged assault took place at Kejriwal's residence on the night of February 19. The Delhi Police had earlier told a court that during interrogation, Jain said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs Prakash Jarwal and Amanatullah Khan had allegedly surrounded the chief secretary and assaulted him.

The police have already questioned the 11 MLAs who were present at the chief minister's residence apart from Kejriwal, Jain and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, at the meeting where Prakash was allegedly attacked.

On February 23, a police team examined the CCTV system installed at the chief ministers residence in 'the Civil Lines area and seized the hard disk. The forensic report on the hard disk is still awaited.

The alleged assault on the chief secretary had triggered a bitter tussle between the Delhi government and its bureaucracy.

A 1984-batch IAS officer, VK Jain was handpicked by Kejriwal after he retired as CEO of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). Jain joined as the adviser to the CM on September 2017. A close confidante of Kejriwal, he was responsible for all the meetings and handling of important documents related to the CM's office.

He had gone on a week-long medical leave on Februray 27, days after the Delhi Police told a court that during interrogation, Jain disclosed that Jarwal and Khan surrounded the chief secretary and saw them assaulting him at Kejriwal's residence.

However, Jain had earlier said that he did not seen anything as he had gone to the washroom at the time of the incident. The alleged assault on Prakash took place in the presence of Kejriwal and his deputy Sisodia.
