Mini motorbikes, 3D video games and animated movies: These arrangements were not a part of an amusement park or a fun fair but the Delhi Traffic Police's annual Road Safety Exhibition. A day after the Children's Day, teenagers and kids in the city participated in an interactive exhibition, held with an aim to inculcate a sense of road safety and traffic rules among the children.

Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma inaugurated the exhibition at Pragati Maidan's Traffic Pavillion on Tuesday.

The theme of the exhibition was 'Know Road Safety: Avoid Road Mishaps'. The entry to the exhibition as well as the refreshments were free for the young participants who thoroughly enjoyed the cultural programmes. The three-day event will culminate on November 18, after which prizes will be awarded to children excelling in various activities during the exhibition. "Children should be our priority as far as road safety is concerned because they are our future," said Verma, who was also the chief guest on the occasion. He added that children were the traffic sentinels in
the making.

Appreciating the initiative, Payal, a student of Gyan Bharti Public School, said: "We have been taught about traffic rules in our school before but the lessons were dull and uninteresting. Here, we got to learn them through games and films. I wish our school could do something like that." Children were given mini motorbikes and safety gear to ride, while a traffic trail was put up for demonstration at the pavilion. "This is a great initiative by the Delhi Traffic Police for schoolchildren, where they not only get to learn the traffic rules but ethics as well. This is pivotal as in the recent years, Delhi has witnessed a huge number of road rage incidents," said an organiser from Mayur Vihar.
