Though the mercury dipped by barely 0.4 degrees Celsius, Delhiites, on Wednesday, witnessed some relief from scorching weather conditions that had become unbearable due to intense humid conditions.

On Wednesday, the Capital recorded a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees, which on Tuesday it was 42 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature on Wednesday settled at 29 degrees, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Met Department had also predicted thunderstorms with rain on Wednesday.

On Thursday, weather officials said, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning with a partially cloudy sky, while on Friday, rain is expected with thunderstorms. Rain and thunder showers are likely to occur on Monday and Tuesday (June 19 and 20), which will bring the mercury down to 37 degrees Celsius.

A Met department official said, "Rain, dust storms and dip in temperature will come due to the Western disturbance."

Delhiites, meanwhile, have been braving the heat, hoping for some spell of rain to make summer bearable. "We stay indoors till evening and step out only after sunset. Even at that hour, it is like walking into a furnace," said Sonali Gupta, a resident of Greater Kailash-I.
