As air pollution gets worse by the day, plunging to hazardous in some areas on Thursday, people are devising their own combat mechanism. A lot of corporate professionals have opted to work from home while parks wear a deserted look as parents are keeping children indoors. Delhi's air quality remained 'very poor' on Friday, with seven areas recording a 'severe' pollution level, even as Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) issued a show-cause notice to the city government's Irrigation and Flood Control Department for not containing open burning of waste at the Shahdara drain.

The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting (SAFAR) recorded an overall air quality index (AQI) of 346.

Waking up to smoggy mornings has forced people, especially those travelling a long distance to the office, indoors. Professionals claim that they have opted to work from home to cut down on the travel time to the office, to avoid prolonged exposure to toxic air. "For the past one week, I have not been to the office because the pollution is so bad. Since I also have borderline asthma, I requested my company to let me work from home," said Sanjit Sinha, an advertising professional."It is so scary to step out these days. One ends up coughing and wheezing all through the day. I knew this was affecting my productivity. So I sought permission to work from my home for a few days and reduce my fieldwork till pollution subsidies," Javed Iqbal, a marketing professional said.

Meanwhile, a lot of parents are shielding their children from hazardous pollution by keeping them indoors. Hence, no outdoor games for them. "I feel sad every time I do not let my daughter go out and play but there is no option. I cannot afford her to fall sick," Manjusha Chowdhary, a mother of an eight-year-old rued. Nalini Mudra, mother of twins is devising new ways to keep her young ones entertained till pollution clears. "They get restless sitting inside as I am not letting them go in the neighbourhood park," she said.
