Dashing Shankersinh Vaghela’s birthday plans, state government late on Tuesday evening informed him that he cannot be allotted Mahatma Mandir, where he had announced to hold a convention on his 77th birthday on Friday.

Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Vaghela received a letter from the state government’s Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb) informing him of the same.

Not deterred, Vaghela changed the venue of his event to Civil Hospital Convention Hall at Gandhinagar, while informing those scheduled to attend the event. iNDEXTb sources said that pre-scheduled maintenance work would be undertaken at Mahatma Mandir on the day and hence Vaghela was denied permission.

Vaghela has said that he would be making a big announcement on the day and has invited all supporters and Opposition MLAs, including those from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Janata Dal (United).

Interestingly, the state government will be holding a meeting with NGOs for planning of Narmada Mahotsav at the same location on Thursday, where CM Vijay Rupani, deputy CM Nitin Patel and other senior ministers and BJP leaders would be present.
