Failing to manage his girlfriend's expenses, a Noida-based businessman allegedly dumped the woman in Australia to get rid of their relationship following heavy losses in his business. The man was booked for outraging the modesty of the woman and was arrested on Sunday after the woman lodged a police complaint.

The woman alleged that she was sexually abused for two years on the pretext of marriage and that she also invested some money in the man's company but was given no returns. She further said that the businessman, identified as Laxmikant, convinced her to sell one of her flats and made her invest Rs 10 lakh in his company.

Police said that in her complaint, the woman said that she somehow managed to return to India last week as the man returned to India without telling her, leaving her with little money. The woman claimed that when she contacted her boyfriend, he refused to even recognise her. Outraged, she filed a case against him following which he was booked and arrested.

Last month, Laxmikant took his girlfriend to Australia on a business trip on the pretext that an international business collaboration might help the firm recover from losses.

"The couple lived together for around 20 days in Australia. However, suddenly Laxmikant returned to India without informing her," said Jitendra Kumar, Station House Officer, Phase III Police Station, Noida.

Police said the woman in her statement had stated that she did not have sufficient money to stay there. Later, she sought help from her relatives and somehow managed a return to India. She then visited Laxmikant's house and questioned him about the reason for leaving her alone in Australia. She also alleged that Laxmikant refused to recognise her.

On Friday, the woman registered a case against him accusing him of outraging her modesty. "On the complaint, a case was registered under Section 354 of the IPC. The accused was arrested on Sunday. He has been sent to judicial custody. We are investigating the case with all angles," Kumar added.
