Snatchers in southeast Delhi will be regretting the day they grabbed and attempted to flee with the valuables of 20-year-old Gauri. Not only did the woman chase them down, she also showed exemplary courage and pinned down one of them until the police and locals arrived.

The accused has been identified as 22-year-old Kasim, who is a resident of Sangam Vihar area.

According to senior police officers, it was around 1 pm on Saturday, when Gauri, a resident of Tigri area in Sangam Vihar, who is a graduate of Delhi University, boarded an auto-rickshaw to go to a nearby market. She told police, that it was hardly five-ten minutes later that two men on bike inched closer to her auto-rickshaw and the pillion rider attempted to snatch her phone and valuables.

"The woman said that since she was alert, she saw the snatcher and pulled him in the opposite direction as he tried to escape with her valuables. Due to this, the bike rider lost control of the two-wheeler and the pillion fell off the bike. The auto driver also stopped the auto and both him and Gauri started chasing the pillion rider. It was with the help of passers-by that the accused was pinned down and caught just 300 metres away from where the incident took place," said a senior police officer.

The Police Control Room (PCR) was then informed and the accused was arrested. "Gauri's valuables were recovered and efforts to identify the other accused who managed to speed away on his motorcycle, are being made," the police said.
