Commuters travelling from Noida to south Delhi will reduce their travelling time considerably as the Delhi Metro Rail corporation opens Magenta Line on the Botanical Garden Metro station. This station will also be the first interchange metro station in the Delhi National Capital Region outside the capital.

The station currently serves the Blue line that runs between Dwarka and Noida city centre. In the present operational network, there are no interchange stations outside Delhi. The Botanical Garden inter change station will serve as changing point between Line 3 (NOIDA City Centre – Dwarka Sector 21) and the Botanical Garden corridor – Kalkaji Mandir Magenta line of Phase 3 (Line 8), which is expected to be commissioned by end of November.

The station is of great significance for Noida as it will connect the satellite town directly with important areas of south Delhi such as Nehru Place, Kalkaji, etc. Passengers en route to Faridabad from Noida will also be able to change trains at Kalkaji Mandir and go directly to Faridabad.

Since both Botanical Garden and Kalkaji Mandir are interchange stations, there will be significant reduction in travelling time between various destinations especially those on the blue and violet lines. For instance, the travelling time currently between Botanical Garden and Kalkaji is 52 minutes with an interchange at Mandi House. With the Magenta line it place, the train will chug right to Kalka Ji Mandir station in 19 minutes.

According to a senior DMRC official, the Botanical Garden – Kalkaji section will comprise of nine stations. "Apart from Kalkaji Mandir, all other stations will be elevated. After the subsequent extension of the Magenta line from Kalkaji Mandir to Janakpuri West in the near future, the travelling time between Noida and Gurugram will come down by about half an hour to a total of 50 minutes with interchange at Hauz Khas," said the official. Presently, a journey from HUDA City Centre in Gurugram to Botanical Garden in NOIDA takes about 1.5 hours with interchange at the busy Rajiv Chowk Metro station.

NOIDA will also get directly connected with the domestic terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport for the first time. The journey from the Botanical Garden station to the domestic terminal will just take about 40 minutes.
