The body of a 10-year-old boy, who went missing while on his way home from school on Thursday, was found in a canal in southeast Delhi on Saturday. The police have not ruled out sexual assault following the murder.

According to senior police officers, a PCR call was received at 9.42 am in the Jaitpur police station reporting that a dead body of a minor boy was found near the Agra canal in Mithapur area. The minor was identified as Akash Kumar.

Primary investigation revealed that the child had been missing from Thursday from near his school. An FIR was registered. DCP south, Chinmoy Biswal said that a case under relevant sections was registered and the matter is being probed.

"Post-mortem investigation would ascertain if there is a sexual assault following the murder. Family members and others known to the family are being questioned and CCTV footages from the area are being scanned to ascertain the sequence of incident," the DCP said.
