In a tragic incident, bodies of two women with their throats slit were found at their residence in Wazirabad area. The killings came to light early morning on Monday. Police suspect role of the husband of one of the deceased women behind the killings, as he is absconding. Police also ruled out any sexual assault but said medical reports are awaited.

The deceased were identified as Premlata, 24, and her sister-in-law Sonia, 22. According to the police, their bodies were found lying in a pool of blood at Sonia's residence in north Delhi's Wazirabad, police said. The two women had multiple sharp stab injuries on their throats which the police suspects were either inflicted using ice prick or a needle-like thing.

The brutal murder came to light when Sonia's father called her early morning on Monday but no one answered his calls. He then asked the tenants in the building to check on Sonia. When the tenant went downstairs to check on the woman, he found both of them lying on the floor with their throats slit.

Prima facie, senior police officers who visited the spot said that the house was not ransacked and the accused had made a friendly entry. They said, Premlata's husband Mohit, who had also been staying with them and is Sonia's cousin, is absconding since the killings came to light and therefore is the prime suspect in the case so far. Initial questioning also revealed that Mohit and Premlata had a fight late night on Sunday, which was also followed by a violent scuffle. Police suspects if the fight escalated to a level that Mohit, in a fit of rage killed his wife and when Sonia, his cousin sister, who also apparently intervened, was killed by Mohit.

DCP north, Jatin Narwal said that a case has been registered and crime and forensics teams also visited the spot to collect crucial evidence. "CCTV footage from the vicinity are also being checked and the deceased women's family and friends are being questioned to know more," Narwal said.

Police also said that Mohit's phone was switched off. "He was seen in the house and locality last night. We are trying to reach to him as he can be one of the crucial links to the murder. Role of an outsider is also being probed," a senior police officer said.

Initial probe revealed that Sonia had recently undergone a surgery and Premlata and Mohit came to stay with her to take care of her.

In April this year, severed body parts of a man were found at three different locations in north Delhi's Timarpur in the early hours. The body parts were wrapped in sacks and plastic bags.
