Dr. Mahender Nagpal, former legislator from Wazirpur assembly constituency, also a PhD in 'The Problem of Hung Parliament in India' is again trying his luck from Wazirpur assembly constituency, Delhi in the upcoming elections. Often heard saying that he is a proud 'sevak of sangh', Nagpal contesting against AAP's Rajesh Gupta and Shankar Gupta of Congress is confident of his win. While talking to iamin, Nagpal elaborates how he always makes sure to include public opinion while taking decisions.

How do you plan to regain the votes in your constituency?

I have already worked as a councillor in this area and won the assembly seat too. I know this area quite well and understand the civic issues. People are preferring to vote for an honest candidate who is willing to work. For this season of assembly polls, we are running a ‘sampark abhiyan’ where I meet the public to understand their grievances. It is a door-to-door campaign and I am also trying to create awareness about the development work we did.

What gives you an edge over other candidates contesting against you?

Expertise in political and civic issues and better administrative skills give me an edge. In my constituency, an amount of over Rs 80 crore has been invested in the ongoing development work being undertaken by various departments like Public Welfare Department and Archaeological Survey of India. I have been working at the ground level also.

Who do you consider your competitor- AAP or Congress?
In my constituency, Congress candidate Hari Shankar Gupta can turn out to be a potential competition. AAP's Rajesh Gupta has not done anything for the people.

Is it a Kejriwal or Kiran Bedi wave in Delhi?

Kejriwal is a thug. He has betrayed the people. Earlier he said that he does not want to become the CM then he contradicted himself. He then went on to contest in Lok Sabha elections. Kiran Bedi is the most appropriate CM candidate. She has great administrative skills. She will also make the city safer for women.

BJP has started including many AAP leaders in their party. Is it because the party is insecure about AAP's positive image among the Delhites?
Not at all. Those AAP leaders were themselves willing of joining our party. They were fed up with Kejriwal’s way of working as he lacks organizational skills. We want to free the capital city from Congress. We also want the state to be free from a party like AAP that betrays people and follows the ideology of naxalites.
