The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said that the BJP is trying to "destabilise" governments in non-BJP states through governors and extended its support to West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amid the ongoing turmoil in the state.

Referring to the present rift between West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and Banerjee's government, senior AAP leader Ashutosh said that the Raj Bhavans were being "remote-controlled by the Centre."

"Mamata Banerjee is no ordinary politician. The Governor's words violated constitutional decorum. He has threatened an elected chief minister. This is not a good sign for the country's democracy," he said.

Referring to the arrest of a few Dalit activists in Lucknow recently, Ashutosh stressed that unity within the Opposition was the "need of the hour," to tide over the "crisis assailing the country."

On being asked if AAP was planning to form a platform for Opposition parties, Ashutosh said that it was time that other parties realised what AAP was facing.

On Tuesday, Banerjee had accused Tripathi of "threatening" her over phone. She had then said that he was "acting like a BJP block president."
