A day ahead of Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah's expected address to booth-level workers at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital over municipal corporations elections scheduled on April 22, uncertainty prevails in Delhi BJP about the number of members to be present at the venue.

While some BJP leaders are saying that Shah will kick off the civic polls campaign, others say that he will address the meet on Sunday.

Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari says that over 65,000 workers will be attending the meeting in which Shah and Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will "guide" the booth level workers for better election management. "13,372 booths multiplied by five workers each, i.e., a total of 66,615 workers will be attending the meet," said Tiwari.

Tiwari's calculation is borne out by the BJP's bid to strengthen the party's organisational structure ahead of the municipal polls. Sources say that the state BJP has decided to appoint five workers, including a woman, at each booth, who will be called the panch parmeshwar.

However, Delhi BJP General Secretary Kuljeet Chahal said that Shah will kickstart the civic polls campaign wherein more than one lakh workers are expected to attend it.

"We are expecting a turnout of one lakh workers at Ramlila Maidan. We are making all the arrangements to ensure it is a grand function," said Chahal.

A source agreed with Chahal. He said that in the party meeting called on Thursday, BJP National General Secretary (organisation) Ramlal, called party workers to get maximum people to come to Ramlila Maidan.

"Ramlal has told us to get maximum turnout and ensure roads surrounding the Ramlila Maidan are fully packed," the source said.

Sources added that Shah will address booth-level party workers and they said that local leaders want the event to be spectacular. As a result, they have invited all the BJP leaders and workers and expect around one lakh people to attend.

However, Tiwari maintains that only panch parmeshwars, who will be issued identity cards, will attend the meeting, but the party — on the direction of Ramlal — will work overtime to make the event a show of strength.
