Bikers shoot man to death in Dwarka

A group of assailants rained bullets on a man in southwest Delhi's Dwarka late night on Monday when he was heading home. Police said more than a dozen rounds were fired, four of which hit the victim, leaving him dead on the spot. Deployment of an adequate police force had to be ensured following the incident which sparked panic among residents. No arrests could be made till Tuesday.

The incident took place around 9 pm when a few men on a bike approached a man, later identified as Vikas alias Vikky, and started firing at him. Witnesses told police that the incident took place in full public view.

As Vikas tried to flee, the men gheraoed him and shot him in the face, abdomen and chest. He also tried to rush inside a shop, but was caught. They said, as soon as their target collapsed, bleeding profusely, the assailants fled.

"Locals, who had gathered at the spot after hearing the gun shots, called the police and the man was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. A crime and forensics team was then rushed to the spot to collect evidence. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination and the deceased's family was informed," said a senior police officer.

The primary probe has also revealed that two men from the locality had accused the deceased of harassing their sister a few weeks ago. Police suspect this rivalry is the motive for the murder but are ascertaining the facts.

DCP (Southwest) Surender Kumar said, "A case of murder has been registered. The role of five men has surfaced in the killing and efforts to identify them and the vehicles used by them are underway.
