A 20-year-old businessman was shot dead 100 metre away from a police post by three unidentified bike-borne assailants after he resisted robbery in the Bhangel area on Sunday night.

Locals protested and halted traffic movement in the area for an hour demanding the arrest of the criminals on Monday morning. They also alleged that there is no police patrolling and snatching cases are usual in the area. According to the police, the incident took place around 10 pm when the deceased, identified as Diwakar Kansal, a Noida-based businessman, was heading home with his father after closing their confectionary shop.

"When the two reached the Sector 82 intersection road leading to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, three unidentified men on a bike stopped them. They tried to loot their bag carrying cash. The two tried to resist the robbery during which the assailants opened fire at them," said Shwetabh Pandey, circle officer- 3, Noida, Kansal received three bullet injuries while his father received minor injuries. They fled with the bag which contained of Rs 5 lakh cash . Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital ,where he was declared dead on arrival.

"Though the police post was just 100 metre away, still the criminals managed to shoot and flee. There are no CCTV cameras in the area and no police patrolling at night. We want the police to arrest the criminals and provide justice," said Vipul Sanj, a resident of Banghel.

Following the allegations by the locals, the police have suspended the post in-charge of the Bhangel police post on Monday. "Sub-inspector of the Bhangel police post, Arun Kumar has been suspended because of negligence towards his duties. We have asked the circle officers to keep a check on all the areas that come under their jurisdiction to curb crime," said a senior police officer. The police have registered a case against three unidentified men under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
